Why You Should Own a Dash Cam

Accident Protection – A good dash cam can pay for itself the first time you are involved in an accident and need to prove who was at fault. You may be an exceptionally good driver, but how about the next guy? Today most police officers wear body cams for a reason, a dash cam will act as your vehicle’s “body cam”.

Parking Surveillance – Many of the bad things that can happen to your car happens when the car is parked and unattended. Returning to your car to find scratches, dents, and vandalism can be very frustrating. The general public mostly ignores car alarms these days, so having one won’t help. But what if you had a video recording of what took place while you were away from your car?

Insurance Fraud – “Free money” attracts scam artists. Auto-insurance fraud is estimated to cost insurance companies $1.6 billion annually. If you don’t want to be one of the victims, owning a dash cam can keep scammers from taking advantage of you. And as a added benefit, your insurance company may offer you a discount because you own a dash cam.

Peace of Mind – Do you have a young or beginner driver in your household? A dash cam allows you to monitor the driving habits of anyone that may be using your car. If you dash cam has built-in GPS you will be able to monitor where your car goes and at what speeds it travels in real time.

Record a Road Trip – With a dash cam you can turn that exciting road trip into an unforgettable journey that you can “take” as often as you want

Amazing and Unexpected Events – Have you watched any amazing videos online of car crashes, meteorites, or unbelievably funny scenes. Very few of them have been recorded on purpose and many have been recorded using a dash cam. You never know when the unexpected will occur.

Thinkware F200 Dash Cam, 2 Channel with Infrared

Thinkware F200

Thinkware manufactures some of the best dash cams on the market today and the F200 is one of those. It is small in size, 3.9 x 0.9 x 1.3-inches, and fits near your rear view mirror nicely without blocking your view. With three days of battery life, it is able protect your car for long periods of unattended time when needed. The F200 records with a wide 140° field-of-view lens, at 1080p HD at 30 frames per second (fps) with the front camera and 720p at 30fps with a wider 160° field-of-view on the rear camera.

The F200 features an energy saving parking mode. The camera will “sleep” until an impact is detected and then will wake up to record a 20-second video. After that, the camera will return to its sleep mode to conserve power. This is excellent if you require extended parking surveillance.

Because there is no display screen, you will need to connect the camera via WiFi to a smartphone and access the Thinkware app to change any settings. Through the app you will be able to change things like exposure levels (dark, medium, and bright) for either camera, set voltage usage levels, and alter the G sensors sensitivity.

Image quality is only mediocre. It can be hard to make out some details like writing on the side of vans or license plate numbers. This is due to the F200 using a relatively low data rate for its Full HD recording.
