Uniden R7
The Uniden R7 is the flagship model and as such has almost every conceivable bell or whistle you could ever want. When we first saw this unit, the rather dated appearance was a put-off, but after a little use, you completely forget that it sorta looks like it belongs in the Knight Rider’s K.I.T.T. Trans Am rather than your modern car.
DIsplay Functions and Features
The display is somewhat small on this device and it packs a lot of information in there. The OLED screen makes for bright, vibrant colors that help you see clearly even in bright sunlight. The display shows posted speed limit or the type of radar band detected on the left side. The right side includes directional arrows, the detected radar band, and the frequency. This is all the essential information you need and it’s packed in tight. We thought it would be inconveniently small until we used the R7 and realized that the graphics are easy to read and understand at a glance.
Control Buttons
The Uniden R7 features four buttons on top for volume control, menu, and power. Drivers side buttons include mute and a mark function to manually input false signals. The button placement is very convenient and feels natural when you are using the R7 while driving. It was chosen among the top Unider detectors.
Technology
The R7 features dual antennas that detect radar signals from the front, rear, or sides. This gives you a much better way to interpret whether signals that are received are a threat or not. Built-in GPS allows you the ability to mark false signals and the user community-based app provides up to date locations of red light cameras and speed trap cameras.
False alerts are rare due to the advanced IVT filter that screens signals likely to be originating from automatic doors or driver assist features on other cars. Optional voice alerts keep you in the know when a threat is detected.

Escort is one of the most respected names in the game, and generations of radar detector users will swear by them. Escort detectors rely on the community-based network of users through the Escort LIVE app. This app enables you to get advanced alerts from other users in your area about upcoming threats long before you get there. Using the device is a little on the weird side and we found it to be less comfortable than the Uniden R7.
DIsplay Functions and Features
The OLED display is small, and like the R&, packs a lot into the space. You get a display on the left that indicates the maximum speed limit and your current speed. On the right side of the display you’ll find the incoming band alerts and a bar graph indicating signal strength. This helps you determine how far away a threat might be. Directional arrows are bright blue and have dedicated space off the display in the face of the unit.
Control Buttons
Escort crams all the buttons on top of the unit. This is a design we simply don’t like. All too often, you’ll want to hit the mute or mark button, and instead you’ll end up fumbling around trying to figure out which of the six buttons you can’t see does what you want. We prefer to have buttons located away and visible so that we don’t risk distracted driving while messing with our radar detector.

The Escort Max 360c has an advanced IVT filter to help screen false signals coming from automatic doors and driver assist functions.
