The Whistler Titan replaces the Whistler CR79 and is superior to the later device in every way. We first want to bring attention to the new features that Whistler has added, many of which are firsts for the company.
The Titan has an all-new Digital Signal Processor (DSP) platform that allows the device to intercept and interpret radar signals more quickly than previous models. The new DSP contributes to the Titan’s significantly improved radar detection range. It has been tested to achieve an average of over 1,600 feet detection range from the most commonly used radar band.
Whistler provides a manual and automatic false alert lockout feature. This is a first for Whistler and a feature lacking in older designs. We also found that the Titan has a bunch of new ways that users can adjust alert filtering for different speeds and driving conditions. The detector can have up to three unique profiles to suit other drivers or for different settings based on the type of driving you are doing. For example, you can set a profile for urban driving and another for suburban driving, and another profile for highway driving to have unique filtering for each scenario.

The new display design is functional and aesthetically pleasing. The information is displayed in a soft blue color that is easy on the eyes but also visible in bright daylight. The screen displays radar band information and signal strength. It can also automatically display manual lockouts, GPS lockouts, and certain other functions.
The new display is clean and has a nice, modern feel. We would have liked to see a two- or three-color display to help break up the information and make it a little more readable, but the display is far better than most.
Automatic False Alert Filtering
Whistler really brought the Titan into the ballgame with the range of false alert filtering functions available to customize the detector for your driving. Automatic lockouts are better than most we have tried and are ideal for blocking false alerts on routes you commonly drive. The detector also has a forget function that will remove a filter from memory if it no longer exists, freeing up space for better storage.
Whistler fine-tuned the ability of this detector to mute false signals caused by other cars with driver safety functions. While not 100%, the Titan is as good as any high-end detector and better than most.
Speed-rated signaling is one of the coolest features of the Titan detector. The user can set specific speed-related filtering options to reduce false alerts and ignore hits when not necessary. This technology makes the Titan one of the quietest detectors around.
Built-in GPS makes it possible to lockout areas manually and automatically. GPS technology is also responsible for allowing the Titan to provide red light camera and speed camera signals and alert the driver ahead of time.
Finally, the Titan uses a new type of power cord that offers more stable power and an auxiliary USB port for charging a smartphone. This is a big upgrade over the old-style cable and enhances the device’s functionality.
